Twinsburg, Ohio, April 28, 2022: Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE), an American manufacturer of quality, industry-leading, testing equipment, dynamometers and related products, has announced that the company delivered the second of three functional test stands for a major original equipment manufacturer of battery electric vehicles (BEV). The BEV manufacturer contacted MAE to design and build three different pieces of testing equipment: an end-of-line chassis dynamometer capable of testing electric vehicles, an electric motor test stand for pre-production development activities, and an end-of-line electric motor test stand to be integrated into the automated production line. MAE was contacted because of their significant background in designing and building custom testing equipment for a wide variety of vehicles.
MAE has completed a multitude of made-to-order test systems for various BEV manufacturers, from sophisticated chassis dynamometers to test stands for drivetrains and components (electric motor, power supply, and inverter) to electric axle testing systems. The system MAE delivered is a pre-production electric motor test stand equipped with MAE’s TestCell software package tailored to meet the customer’s specific testing requirements.
The motor test stand is used to confirm the test motor is fundamentally sound (i.e. no open circuit or short circuit) then to spin the test motor to confirm that the generated three phase power is 120 degrees out of phase and to check voltages at various RPM settings. The test stand also monitors the test motor’s integral thermistor and speed sensor as well.
