January 31, 2014 – Twinsburg, Ohio, USA – Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE) today announced that the company has successfully delivered an 400 KN tow dynamometer to Caterpillar for heavy duty, off-road testing applications. The tow dynamometer consists of multiple PAU’s, controls, software, generator, fifth wheel speed sensor, etc. to provide a turnkey system for research and development of heavy duty offroad vehicles.
MAE demonstrated the tow dynamometer was more than capable of the rated specifications of 400 KN of drawbar force at 0.75 mph, with a maximum speed of 28 mph. The tow dynamometer is also equipped with a fifth wheel speed sensor for measuring ground speed.

Engineering, worked closely with the customer in developing the specific testing requirements. “MAE’s successful delivery of previous tow dynamometer projects to Caterpillar led to this challenging project, which required extremely high drawbar forces applied at very low speeds.
